How to fix reputation in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl

by Yaron

Unless you played any of the previous games, it might come as a surprise to learn just how many immersive sim elements are in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. In a lot of ways, it is closer to a more hardcore Fallout game than a pure FPS title, with lots of loot, quests, and characters to meet and talk to. One somewhat hidden mechanic is the reputation system. Stalker 2 won’t stop you from opening fire on anyone you want, but not without consequence. Upset someone from a particular group, and you’ll find yourself being hunted by them until you do something about it. There are enough things in Stalker 2 trying to kill you so if you accidentally angered a group and want to get back in their good graces, here’s how you can fix your reputation.

If you’ve intentionally or accidentally shot or hurt a friendly NPC from one of the main groups in Stalker 2, you will instantly be put on their “shoot on sight” list if it lowers your reputation enough. Thankfully, there are ways to get yourself a second or third chance, but only two.

The first way is easiest, but takes a while. So long as you don’t keep attacking that group and avoid them so they don’t see and open fire on you, eventually, they will forget the whole thing ever happened and forgive you. You can speed this process up by finding a bed and sleeping a couple of days. While they won’t shoot you on sight any more, they won’t fully forgive you.

If you want to repair your reputation faster, you need to head to a location where that group has a leader and talk to them. You won’t be attacked going into a major town, so don’t worry about that. Once you find one of these leaders (there can be more than one), you will need to discuss what it will cost to be forgiven. Whether coupons or time is more valuable is up to you, but you need to spend one if you care about working with that faction again.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is the next hotly anticipated entry in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise. The game is releasing over 13 years after the last entry in the series, and it’s making its debut on consoles as an Xbox Series X exclusive.

Developer GSC Game World was forced to delay this title after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began and uprooted the team members’ lives. Despite the hardships and tragedy every member of the team no doubt suffered, and all the sacrifices they made, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was not abandoned and the team pushed on to continue developing the game.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 seems like it will be well worth the wait

Rumblings about a sequel to the cult classic S.T.A.L.K.E.R, an atmospheric, yet janky supernatural shooter set within the radioactive zone around Chornobyl, have been around since 2010. The current version of the sequel from GSC Game World has been discussed since 2020. It was initially going to launch as early as April 2022, but due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, its development has been rife with delays, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was pushed back again and again, all the way until this September.

With only a few months to go until launch, GSC Game World finally had the game playable at Summer Game Fest this year. I went hands-on with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and it’s shaping up to be a brutal survival shooter that will be well worth the wait.

How to play left-handed in Counter-Strike 2
A character holding a gun in the left hand in Counter Strike 2.

Unless you’re a lefty, you may not notice that every shooter, including Counter-Strike 2, always has you playing as a right-handed character. While it may not seem like a big deal, it just feels awkward for people who primarily use their left hands to get used to seeing games that way, especially when previous versions of this game allowed you to play as a southpaw. And, if you’re playing at the highest level, swapping hands can make peaking corners much easier. While it was missing for almost the first year of the game, Counter -trike 2 has finally allowed players to swap hands and play however is more natural and comfortable for them. Here is how to set your preferred handedness in Counter-Strike 2 and swap it on the fly.
How to swap handedness

If you want to set your character to always play either left- or right-handed, the best way is to set your preferred handedness in the settings. Open up your settings and go into Game > Item and scroll down to the Preferred Viewmodel Left/Right Handedness option. The drop-down menu will let you choose between right and left so you will always default to that view.
